The Sinking of ADF 23 in Trincomalee Harbour
One of the world’s best natural harbour resources, Trincomalee harbour can be considered, not only present but also from the ancient time. By the way during the period of Second World War Sri Lanka was a Colonial of British. This article about the sank Admiralty Floating Dock 23 which has happened 80 years ago but still do not have full record or a discovery through an underwater exploration.
However, this 23rd Admiralty Floating Dock was one of AFD which had been established by the British. And this AFD 23 had recorded the second largest ship dock which has constructed Bombay, India and kept nearby the Sober Island, Trincomalee. Purposely those AFDs had established to dock the warships because the time was with world warfare.
Nevertheless, 8th August 1944, the day was passing as the usual the AFD 23 was busy with Battleship HMS Valiant. She was docked at AFD 23 with a much heavier load. Hence, that has combined with the error of incorrect
distribution of weight. Due to this, AFD 23 had damaged her back and sank with the ship unexpectedly.
Today 08th August 2024 it reminds the 80th of miserable occurrence and the fateful night the great entity hidden under the sea. Finally, in whatever way, it’s better to examine the great mistake which had sunk the ship and the AFD 23 the bottom of the sea in the depth of 140ft and I can guarantee that AFD 23 has the potential to be the second most exciting wreck dive after the HMS Hermes wreck off Batticoloa.
